Baby loves to dance in the dark

Hello! If you're new and stumbling on this journal for the first time, you're probably here for the fic. Here's a neat and tidy list of works that I've written (by fandom, pairing, length, rating, and warnings), to make the mess of tags that is my journal easier to navigate.

Also: Please feel free to leave feedback on fic even if it is weeks or months old. I've always felt weird about doing that myself, so I just wanted to say that is a-okay in my books. Feedback is lovely.

Words words words...Collapse )

If you like what I write and want to add me as a friend, just leave a note here or elsewhere introducing yourself. (Or feel free to add me anonymously! I am pro-lurker.) All fic and many fandom posts are unlocked, but if you'd like to read friends-only entries, I'd be happy to consider adding you.

Also, for what it's worth, most of my works are also on the Archive of Our Own, under the same user name.

(Introduction post stolen from makokitten because she is spiffy.)

Title: Fruits
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Brittany/Santana
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Crack, mostly
Word Count: 470
Spoilers: Minor spoilers for all of Season 2
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, then it's not mine. All fruit facts found via personal experience or Wikipedia.
Summary: A glimpse into Brittany's mind, as she eats an apple and thinks about her girlfriend.
A/N: Profoundly silly. Originally written for a Word Association game on the glee_kink_meme, the word being "apples," and originally posted here. I'm posting this on my journal now A) so I can have all the fanfiction I've written in one place, B) to show I've actually written Glee fic, because this is my first and quite possibly last complete one, and C) because talking with someone last weekend reminded me how Brittana is one of the few awesome things left in Glee that I love. Oh, and there is an order behind Brittany's specific choices; it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Santana... was like an apple.Collapse )

I know it is approaching crazy o'clock, since I'm probably going to wake up at 6:30 again tomorrow because that is how my beach week has been going. My skin has begun to peel from sunburn - but it's mostly on my forehead and nose. Of course, between sunburn and a pool injury, my nose now looks about two steps up from Mad-Eye Moody's.

Anyway, just wanted to let the records show before he left: My step-cousin is now definitely my new favorite person. (Prior to yesterday, missinfinitive was my new favorite person, which would suggest either I'm getting better at making friends or I've just met a few really awesome people lately.) I mean the step-cousin who goes to Anime Boston and used to cosplay and writes poetry, not the older one who lives in N'Orleans.

It's hard to describe, but we talked a lot and he played me some excellent dubstep and we almost watched Fellowship of the Ring together, but he's seen it a dozen or so times so it's not quite as exciting. We have a ton of stuff in common, including several things I wish we didn't, and it just feels a lot easier to talk to him than pretty much anyone else in my family right now. Also, he apologized to the group in general for spending 96% of the wedding huddled away in a corner with a girl, even though it was the last time he was going to see her for months. Basically I'm just really glad he was able to come to this trip and wasn't living with his dad, who apparently doesn't have hot water in his house, three years after buying it. And I spent half a beach walk last night trying to convince him to watch "Blink," which worked last year for another cousin. He likes the idea of Doctor Who and is into weird horror movies, so I figured it'd be a good place to start.

He's also a Wiccan, because witches are cool. I got a tarot reading from his cards, which turned out more uplifting than depressing, but still seemed fairly accurate. (Major concerns this year: Money, judgment, the eight of wands.)

I mean, I did a whole bunch of other stuff at the beach too. As I mentioned before, I got sunburned like whoa. I played Hide and Sneak with my family and hid in a closet with L for half an hour. We went sailing two days ago, and the waves were intense, and our boat flipped over! That was exciting.

I guess I should do an Otakon recap at some point. Along with post fic, figure out my con/beach situation for next year, watch The New World and maybe get excited for Moffat Series 6B, compose an operetta, and post more fic. But for now, those were the thoughts I wanted to put on the Internet.

(For the record, L disdains the idea of having a blog unless you've coded it yourself. Hehe.)

Enjoy your days, ducks.

Title: The Last Night / The Last Morning
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Idris, Auntie, Uncle, Nephew, mentions of House, and an OFC (Lady Serapteine)
Word Count: 1,939 / 752, respectively; 2,691 total
Rating: PG-13, for dark themes and minor body horror
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for "The Doctor's Wife," and that's all
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, then it's not mine. In fact, it is probably Neil Gaiman's.
Summary: Before Idris came to live on House, she traveled the universe with a Time Lady. Then, one day, they fell through a rift. / We know how Idris's last day on the House ended. This is how it began.
A/N: Written for the 2011 Minor and Original Characters Ficathon at who_like_giants. Still not sure if this is two separate stories or two halves of the same story, I suppose I'm going with the latter, as two connected parts, to make it simpler. These are currently in chronological order, but I wrote them in the opposite way, and they can be read in any order. Thanks to skypaws for the beta, and for watching "The Doctor's Wife" with me in the first place.

NIGHT. The path that led Idris to the House was not long, but abrupt and violent, as if a chair had been yanked out from under her former life...Collapse )

MORNING. House was quiet that morning, with only the distant sound of a teakettle boiling and the bubbling of the fountain in her tent breaking the serenity.Collapse )

My Lone-Centurion Rory cosplay is just about done. Chest plate has been constructed entirely, I have the cape and sword and such and I am not going to go into detail again but that part's done and it does not even look like rubbish and I am thrilled.

Will wait till tonight to see the entire outfit - when there are people around to see me wearing it - but I think it'll be pretty good and Who fans at the photoshoot will like it and things will turn out just fine.

In other words, disregard all my previous cosplay-angst entries. Things will be okay.

Also, I just saw Chel and a friend of hers, because they were at the house to drop off their stuff for the weekend. I am excited!

Baby loves to dance in the dark

There are some people in the world who can pull off having an active, productive fandom life and a successful personal life. I'm even privileged to know a few of them (makokitten, I miss you).

I, on the other hand, am pretty incompetent at both.

I mean, I have around 10K words of miscellaneous unfinished fic, and I'm researching transfer opportunities, but those are not enough and they do not excuse the fact that I'm still handling my life choices pretty badly and I need to get better.

Less than a week until Otakon, and I am still struggling to put a halfway decent cosplay together because I am a procrastinator with no sense of scale; a couple days ago I was ready to just give up. It is frustrating the hell out of me. I don't know why I thought it'd be so easy, considering I'm tackling a fairly complex outfit (like, a five or six on the Mohs Scale of Cosplay Hardness) and it is my first time actually assembling anything. Plus, cosplay in general combines several things I am not good at: Color sense, fashion sense, crafting skills, and shoe shopping. (I'm decent at sewing, but you can't exactly sew armor. And acting really has nothing to do with it.) Regardless, as my girlfriend has pointed out, we will no longer be portraying new and shiny characters - there's a fairly good chance there'll be other Amy/Rory cospairs there.

As long as I am whining, my house's air conditioning broke this week - or rather, we thought it broke, then we learned it just isn't capable of handling temperatures this hot (heat index of 110 yesterday, woo). My room is sweltering.

So, in short, I am taking an indefinite hiatus from existence. Logging out, changing password, all that jazz. It is only right.

I might re-appear sometime in August, or in the fall. If not, that is what happened to me. Enjoy the rest of your summers.

Title: Toujours Pur
Harry Potter (Marauders' Era)
Pairing: Regulus/Remus, unrequited Remus/Sirius
Word Count: 1,600
Rating: R
Warnings/Spoilers: Angst, sex, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. No real spoilers.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, then it's not mine.
Summary:  In the darkness, Regulus Arcturus Black reflects on how he spends his Friday nights.
A/N: Less than two days till the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere! This means more old fic re-posting, on my part, naturally. This one was inspired by a random idea and I'm not fully sure where it came from but I love it. I may never be fully satisfied with this fic, but I like it well enough, and it's been three years since I started writing it, so it's not likely to change in the next few days. Unlike with "Detention in the Dungeons," my only editing here was to remove one completely random line suggesting Bellatrix was a prostitute. (WTF, younger self.) Also, random: I only have one Harry Potter icon, and it is far too cheery for this fic. So instead have some dark, screwed-up brother-lovers to go with these dark, screwed up Hogwarts lovers. Hope some of you enjoy this as much as my twisted mind does...

Remus John Lupin. The reason why I’m walking up six flights of stairs on a Friday night, less than half an hour before curfew. I wish I knew his blood purity, although by this point I’m pretty sure he’s half-blood. Better than Muggle-born, I just keep telling myself.Collapse )

Title: Detention in the Dungeons
Fandom: Harry Potter (Post-Deathly Hallows)
Characters/Pairing: Albus Severus Potter/Scorpius Malfoy, OFC
Word Count: 3,086
Rating: PG-13
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for all seven books. (Technically, the main characters' existence is a spoiler, but it has been four years.)
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter; I do, however, own Professor Selwyn.
Summary: Twenty-four years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the new Potions Master gives Albus and Scorpius a detention. They have to drink all manner of strange potions. Experimentation ensues.
A/N: In case you have been living under a stone, the last Harry Potter movie is coming out in nine days! This triggered a wave of nostalgia, as HP was the first fandom I became seriously invested in. So I went back reading through a bunch of old fic I'd written a few years ago, right after The Deathly Hallows was released. Some of the stories I still liked, so I decided to re-post a couple - if nothing else, to get all my fic in one place. I can't recall if this was beta-ed originally, but in any case I've cleaned up a few mistakes, edited for clarity, and tweaked awkward word choices - my former self used words like "imbibe" and "gingerly" way too often. Don't ask why I was interested in the next generation in the first place...This is also on FFN and AO3.

Professor Selwyn unlocked the door with a swish of her wand. It swung open, and Scorpius and Albus were faced with a room full of more potions than either of them had ever seen in one place.Collapse )

Title: From This Day Forward (I'm Yours)
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: Amy/Rory
Word Count: 675
Rating: G
Warnings/Spoilers: Vague spoilers up to "The Big Bang"
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, then it's not mine.
Summary: A small snapshot from the wedding of Amy Pond and Rory Williams.
A/N: Happy first anniversary, Amy and Rory! (June 26, 2011 - better three days late than never.) I was at my uncle's wedding this weekend, and was inspired; I wrote most of this the night after. The quotes from the declaration of consent (not the vows) were taken directly from there, as was the title. I'm not sure which kind of Christian Amy and Rory are, so I tried to leave that open-ended. Oh, I love these two.
(P.S. Auction fics coming soon! I know I am the worst ;__;)

Through her veil, everything appears to shimmer, a bit unreal. (But that's silly, she thinks, what could be more real than this?)Collapse )

Title: The Devil Tips His Hat to Me
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: Amy/Rory
Word Count: 3,500
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Possession/mind control, noncon, psychological abuse, pyrokinesis, language, religious references
Spoilers: Up to "The Almost People," just to be safe
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, then it's not mine.
Summary: Rory gets lost and falls into the hands of a monster, a demon the Doctor has met before. Written for this prompt from the Eleventy Kink meme - because evil!possessed!Rory with fire is cool.
A/N: I wrote this in the midst of half a dozen other fics, to prove that I could actually finish something. This is definitely the darkest thing I've written for Doctor Who, and I still feel bad for Rory and Amy, because this is about the opposite of the usual fluff and happiness of this pairing. But I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Title comes from a Voltaire song, "When You're Evil."

This Ood is taller, and its eyes are bright red. It says, in a smooth, cultured voice, “Greetings, Rory Williams. You should run.”Collapse )

“You've got nothing to worry about, absolutely nothing is out of place. Believe me.” (He doesn't believe it himself.)Collapse )
